Antonio Conte, Inter Milan manager, has revealed he was still hopeful of signing Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United.
Conte said that the former Everton star has not joined Inter because there are some gaps that needed to be addressed.
Juventus and Inter Milan are fighting for the signature of the Belgian international with Manchester United discussing a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala with the Serie A champions.
However, Conte believes he will land the player he almost signed in 2017 during his reign at Stamford Bridge.
“I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen,”
Conte said after his team’s pre-season friendly draw at Tottenham.
“With Lukaku, we are talking about a good player, a striker I tried to buy in the past when I was Chelsea’s coach.
“We are talking about two big clubs — Juventus and Inter Milan — but honestly I don’t know.”
